The Lane Construction Corporation is committed to operating and conducting
business in an environmentally responsible and sustainable way. This responsibility of
environmental stewardship rests with every level of the company, from Corporate
to trade workers and everyone in between.
Lane’s environmental program is coordinated by the Director of Environmental Services, who
reports to the Vice President of Legal. Environmental Coordinators in Maine,
Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, and Florida specialize in the
environmental requirements and responsibilities of the facilities in their
geographic region. The Director and Environmental Coordinators
work together to keep environmental awareness high in all areas and levels of
The Lane Construction Corporation.
Environmental Management Systems (EMS) for Fixed Facilities
An EMS is a set of Management processes and practices that enable an
organization to manage and reduce its environmental impacts and to operate with
greater efficiency and control.
Lane has an EMS in place for facilities in Maine, New Hampshire,
Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Florida.
Each State with an EMS will evaluate its facility operations for environmental
impact and establish goals to support Lane's environmental policy and EMS.
Environmental Policy
The Lane Construction Corporation is committed to the following:
-
Maintaining a clean, healthy environment
-
Continually improving environmental performance and preventing pollution.
-
Complying with federal, state, and local regulations and the standards and
procedures set forth by the Environmental Management System
-
Evaluating our environmental aspects and impacts to establish and pursue
objectives and targets
-
Communicating this policy to our employees and making it available to the
public
We believe this commitment is both good business and a benefit to our
employees, their families, our customers and the communities we serve. The
commitment is a primary objective of management and all employees.
Recycling and Resource Conservation
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) estimates that 73 million tons of
Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) is reused every year. This is more than twice
the weight of paper, glass, plastic and aluminum combined. Asphalt recycling
saves a stunning $400 million in road construction costs every year. Lane is
committed to the use of RAP at all of its major facilities. The use of RAP at
Lane's Hot Mix Plants conserves thousands of tons of sand, stone (and the
resources to extract them) and asphalt each year.
Land Reclamation
Reclaiming land at our sand and gravel pits and quarries is an ongoing activity.
Each year many acres of land are graded and planted with grasses and plants to
control erosion and return the land to a natural state.
